About
CK Animal Rescue (Chatham, Ontario) has been saving dogs from high kill shelters since 2010, owner surrenders and has successfully re-homed over 1500 wonderful dogs along with cats and other small animals. Animal welfare is on the mind of every volunteer at our rescue, so when a local news story about a puppy being brutally killed during a domestic violence broke we knew it was time to do something to help make a difference.
The Purple Leash Campaign was born. Our volunteers have a sincere concern about the situation facing women and children when subjected to domestic violence. Our mission is to provide a safe, temporary place for all pets when their guardians are faced with trying to leave a bad situation. Foster families are desperately needed to help us with our mission.

Canadian research indicates that more than 40% of women experiencing domestic violence and who own pets significantly delay or refuse their escape to safety if it means leaving a pet behind.
CK Animal Rescue wants to offer a solution to these women and their beloved pets in our area of southern Ontario. It’s time to protect those who cannot protect themselves and you can help us!
