CK Animal Rescue (Chatham, Ontario) has been saving dogs from high kill shelters since 2010, owner surrenders and has successfully re-homed over 1500 wonderful dogs along with cats and other small animals. Animal welfare is on the mind of every volunteer at our rescue, so when a local news story about a puppy being brutally killed during a domestic violence broke we knew it was time to do something to help make a difference.

leash-300x300The Purple Leash Campaign was born.  Our volunteers have a sincere concern about the situation facing women and children when subjected to domestic violence.   Our mission is to provide a safe, temporary place for all pets when their guardians are faced with trying to  leave a bad situation.  Foster families are desperately needed to help us with our mission.

Canadian research indicates that more than 40% of women experiencing domestic violence and who own pets significantly delay or refuse their escape to safety if it means leaving a pet behind.

CK Animal Rescue wants to offer a solution to these women and their beloved pets in our area of southern Ontario.  It’s time to protect those who cannot protect themselves and you can help us!  Please consider joining our foster team specifically just for our Purple Leash program – Click Here to Sign up to Foster!
